Deaf Canadian Curling Champion Dies

Deaf Manitoba curler, Clifford Beaulieu, 42, sent to hospital after being discovered outside by Royal Canadian Mounted Police.



CBC WINNIPEG - The family of a Manitoba man who died after spending the night outdoors is devastated and still has questions about what led him into the cold.



Clifford Beaulieu, 42, was spending time with some friends at a home in the Rural Municipality of St. Francis Xavier, Manitoba. Feb. 4. He left and never returned.



"I know he froze from the elements and that, but why let him leave the house like that, and not, you know, check on him, see where he went?" said Martin Beaulieu, Clifford's brother.



Beaulieu was sent to hospital after being found outdoors by police the next day. He died in hospital.



Martin said the group had been drinking and that Clifford left the house after an argument broke out.



"They told me that he was intoxicated when he left the house, but he was also angry at them and when he left, he just, like, he walked away angry," said Martin. "Still, no matter what, you don't let a person walk out in the cold like that."



Beaulieu was part of a Canada’s National Deaf Curling team. The team will compete in the 2015 Winter Deaflympics in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia - March 28 to April 5, 2015.

Hockey Legend Jean Béliveau Dies At 83

VIDEO: Hockey world mourns a legend Jean Beliveau, one of the greatest players to ever skate for the Montreal Canadiens, has died at the age of 83.



MONTREAL - Joseph Jean Arthur Béliveau was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played parts of 20 seasons with the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens.



Montreal Canadiens legend Jean Béliveau passed away at the age of 83 on Tuesday night, the team announced. He earned the nickname Le Gros Bill​.



But both on and off the ice, Béliveau was better known for his skill, sportsmanship and a gentlemanly air that very nearly made him Canada's Governor General in 1994.



At the time, his recurring heart problems and concern for his recently widowed daughter and her small children kept him from accepting the offer.



"Like millions of hockey fans who followed the life and the career of Jean Beliveau, the Canadiens today mourn the passing of a man whose contribution to the development of our sport and our society was unmeasurable," team owner Geoff Molson said in a statement posted on the Canadiens' website.

"Jean Beliveau was a great leader, a gentleman and arguably the greatest ambassador our game has ever known," Molson added.



One of the finest centres who ever played, Béliveau helped lead the Montreal Canadiens to an unprecedented five straight Stanley Cups during the 1950s and 1960s - 10 in all over a nearly 20-year career.



"I always enjoyed the playoffs," Béliveau said. "I enjoyed playing in it. Everybody, not only the players, but management, the fans, maybe the press, everybody is so much more nervous. So I enjoyed every game."​

Deaf Man Robbed & Pushed From 3 Floors of Hotel

Man says Deaf son pushed from 3rd floor of hotel in Mexico. Victim suffered a broken hip, skull fracture and crushed ankle.



The father of a Deaf man from Kamloops, B.C., says his son was robbed and pushed over a third-storey railing while staying at a resort hotel in Mexico.



Ron Simpson says his son Kevin suffered a broken hip, skull fracture and crushed ankle in the attack in Cabo San Lucas last weekend.



He says Kevin was robbed of $850 and pushed off a third floor level of the hotel to the concrete below.



He calls the attack a case of attempted murder.



Simpson says his son is in hospital in San Jose, Mexico, and is in good spirits, but he needs to be brought home to get more medical attention.



The Canadian foreign affairs department says it is gathering more information and has officials standing by to provide consular assistance as needed. SOURCE
