Deaf Man Is Convicted Of Murdering His Girlfriend
Exclusive: Deaf Harlem man convicted of fatally stabbing girlfriend 38 times in New York City.
NEW YORK POST - It took a Manhattan jury less than two hours Friday to convict a Deaf Harlem man of murder for stabbing his Deaf girlfriend 38 times then stuffing her corpse into the bottom of a 55 gallon drum.
After a gruesome month-long trial, jurors deliberated for an hour and half before finding Bismark Lithgow, 26, guilty of killing Francis Pellerano Feb 28 of 2013.
The barrel where the body his girlfriend was found.
Lithgow became increasingly controlling after Pellerano moved into his Harlem apartment he shared with his grandmother, and accused her of cheating, prosecutor Ryan Hayward argued at trial.
As revenge for the perceived betrayal, Lithgow viciously butchered the petite brunette, wrapped her tiny body into a sheet then stuffed it into the bottom of the blue drum.
Pellerano’s corpse festered in his room for two days until his grandmother discovered the drum’s sickening contents.
The defense conceded that Lithgow committed the heinous crime but argued he was in a state of extreme emotional disturbance caused by a frigid mother and brain damage from a childhood illness.
He’s expected to be sentenced April 1st and faces up to life in prison... Read more: nypost.com/2015/03/06/deaf-man-convicted-of-fatally-stabbing-girlfriend-38-times/

Deaf Man's Neighbourhood Learns Sign Language
EXCLUSIVE VIDEO [CC] - Entire neighbourhood learns sign language so they can talk to Deaf man and it moves him to tears.
This video shows the heartwarming moment a Deaf man realised an entire neighbourhood has learned sign language just for him.
Muharrem is shown wandering through his neighbourhood with his sister Ozlem meeting strangers who surprise him with their communication skills.
In the footage, filmed in Instanbul, Turkey, the siblings set out for for what Muharrem thinks is just going to be a normal day. But when they come across a man in a local shop who unexpectedly greets him with sign language, he knows the day is going to be anything but ordinary.
In one scene Muharrem bumps into a woman who apologises to him in sign language, and when they get into a cab, the driver signs "hello" to them. They are then dropped off in a public square where a group of neighbours greet the pair in sign language. Eventually Muharrem is moved to tears at the number of people willing and able to communicate with him.
The video was filmed using secret cameras for an advert organised by Samsung to promote its video call centre for the hearing impaired. The firm teamed up with an ad agency and spent a month setting up cameras around his neighborhood. SOURCE

Deaf Driver Hit and Run Zombie Walk
EXCLUSIVE VIDEO - Deaf man arrested after running over a woman at comic-con in San Diego.
SAN DIEGO, CA - Raw video of the vehicle running over a 64-year woman has emerged, showing the extent of injuries, including exposed flesh, muscle tissue and bone.
While there were initial claims that the motorist heard threats in other online footage, the driver of the vehicle is allegedly Deaf. The man claims he waited for the mass of people to pass, but they attacked his car, breaking his windshield and frightening his young children, he claims.
The Deaf man put his foot down and drove off to escape, but hit a nearby woman who was not participating in the walk. While police were at the head of the parade, no other police were present at any intersections.
The San Diego Zombie Walk was a non-sanctioned event of Comic Con 2014. The organizers of the Zombie Walk required all participants to obey traffic laws, including obeying traffic signals and laws around blocking vehicles which may have right of way.
The woman was seriously injured, and taken to a local hospital. Police have subsequently reported that the Deaf driver is not likely to face any charges. Source

Deaf Homeless Man In Compassionate Gesture
EXCLUSIVE VIDEO [CC] - Deaf homeless man touched by Winnipeggers' generosity.
WINNIPEG, MB - (CBC) A Deaf, homeless man working hard to find a job in Winnipeg has been moved by the generosity of Winnipeggers.
Kevin Adams, 38, was randomly handing out his resume in a McPhillips Street parking lot last week, hoping someone could help him find a job.
That's when he met Jennifer Martens and her husband. The couple took his resume and posted it on Facebook to spread the word. In just hours, it prompted dozens of comments and thousands of shares.
"I am so proud to be a Winnipegger, knowing that people have openly embraced this man and want to help him get back on his feet. It just warms my heart," Jennifer Martens said.
While the Facebook posting resulted in a few job offers, it turns out that Adams' own efforts paid off. He found a job as a painter and starts Tuesday.
Now Adams is composing a letter to thank Winnipeggers for reaching out to him. ... Read more http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/deaf-homeless-man-touched-by-winnipeggers-generosity-1.2670527

Deaf Man Arrested After Standoff With SWAT
EXCLUSIVE: SWAT standoff with Deaf man in Grand Prairie ends peacefully.
GRAND PRAIRIE, TX. - (KVUE News) A standoff with police ended peacefully Monday morning when a man upset about his girlfriend's arrest surrendered after threatening to kill himself.
According to Grand Prairie police spokesperson Lyle Gensler, police responded to a domestic situation at the Sugar Creek Apartments in the 900 block of Duncan Perry just after midnight Monday and found a man and a woman - both legally Deaf - involved in a dispute outside their apartment.
Police determined the woman was intoxicated, and she was arrested for public intoxication.
The arrest upset her boyfriend, who called 911 using Texas Relay, a service that provides telephone access for people with speech or hearing loss. He indicated he had a gun and told dispatchers he wanted his girlfriend to be released from custody or he'd kill himself.
"He has a computer in there that he can talk to via Skype and talk to a live person, and that person can relay to us what he's signing," an officer explained during the standoff. "And that's only if he wants to talk to us.
We've talked to him a couple of times, we've explained to him what's going on, but he still seems unhappy with the whole situation." ... Read more: http://www.kvue.com/news/state/241179071.html

Deaf Elderly Man Brutally Beaten By Police
EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Traffic stop involving Deaf man under investigation, OHP troopers suspended.
OKLAHOMA CITY - (NewsChannel 4) On Jan. 3, court records claim Pearl Pearson fled the scene of a car accident in south Oklahoma City.
An affidavit claims that when Pearson was pulled over along the S Eastern Ave. exit, just off I-40, he resisted two officers and refused to comply with repeated orders to display his hands.
There was a seven-minute altercation. It does not say whether the officers were aware that he is hearing impaired.
Late Tuesday Pearl’s attorney, Billy Coyle, says “My client is completely innocent of these allegations. We are waiting on the OHP (Oklahoma Highway Patrol) report and we are sorting through the facts of the case. My client is profoundly Deaf and was trying to give officers his specialty license during the stop”.
He says his client, a deaf man, was brutalized at the scene, at the hospital and continued at the jail.
One neighbor said the incident is a misunderstanding by troopers that went too far. “I know they do dangerous jobs and they put their lives on the line, but that is over the top,” Sacia Law said. “It’s completely unacceptable. Seven minutes of just basically beating someone?”
The OHP said our request for an interview has been forwarded to the proper division for consideration.
NewsChannel 4 received a statement Monday evening regarding Pearson’s arrest.
Lt. Brian Orr, with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, said, “We can confirm the arrest and charges were filed for leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest. The case went to the Oklahoma County District Attorney and any details of this case will have to come from the DA’s office. We will review the arrest administratively and if it is determined there were violations of department policy, we will take appropriate action.”
NewsChannel 4 learned on Tuesday the two Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers involved, Eric Foster and Kelton Hayes, have been suspended with pay while the investigation into this incident continues.
An OHP spokesman says if the agency determines that there were violations during the arrest, appropriate action will be taken. ... Read more: http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/howard/columbia/ph-ho-cf-taylor-trial-verdict-story-20131113,0,2323185.story

Deaf Man Beaten To Death In His Home
Deaf man beaten to death in his home. His nose was broken, his larynx crushed and clumps of hair ripped from his head.
AURORA, Colorado. - Jonny Braning did a hilarious impression of Elvis. Though he was Deaf, the 48-year-old man had lived a full life.
The simple pleasures Jonny lived for seeing his granddaughter and making people smile were all taken from him between Feb. 26 and March 7, 2002, when someone bludgeoned him to death in his small Aurora apartment.
Robbery may have been the intent, according to a story by former Rocky Mountain News reporter Sarah Huntley. But it was hard for investigators to understand why.
Jonny was living on disability and didn’t have much money, Huntley reported.
Over the years he had worked for King Soopers, Jolly Rancher and as a janitor for a telecommunications company. But he was unemployed and lived on his monthly disability check. He would go to a corner store and write a note for a clerk when he needed something.
He lived in a small apartment at 1097 S. Evanston Way.
It appeared that whoever killed Jonny first attacked him in his bedroom, possibly with some type of blunt weapon, which was never found. Apparently a battle continued into his living room.
His body was found lying on the floor in his living room by maintenance workers who became worried when they realized they hadn’t seen the man, who was a fixture of the complex, in days. The carpet was soaked with blood. Read more: http://blogs.denverpost.com/coldcases/2013/08/31/deaf-and-mute-aurora-man-beaten-to-death-in-his-home/7198/

Deaf Man's Ex-Roomate Arrested For Electronic Thief
VIDEO: Deputy chases man accused of stealing Deaf man's iPad, TV. Deaf man's ex-roommate Michael Palmer arrested.
VERO BEACH, Florida. - A deputy chased after the ex-roommate of a Deaf man whose television and iPad were stolen, an Indian River County Sheriff's Office spokesman said.
Carl Johnson returned to his group home Wednesday night and found he had been burglarized. His clothing, television and, most important, his iPad were gone.
Johnson, who uses the iPad as a way to overcome his challenges in communicating, called 911 and met with Indian River County Sheriff's Office Deputy Greg Farless.
Johnson was telling Farless that he believed his former roommate, Michael Dudley-Palmer, was the thief when Dudley-Palmer returned. Dudley-Palmer had come to the group home to visit another friend.
Farless approached Dudley-Palmer and said that's when Dudley-Palmer ran off. Farless chased him. "Not fun when you're as old as me," Farless said. "But I just stayed with him." The chase went through yards, hedges and streets and lasted three blocks before Dudley-Palmer gave up.
"He ended up admitting to taking the items," Farless said. "The iPad he sold on the street for drugs." Read more: http://www.wpbf.com/news/south-florida/treasure-coast-news/deputy-greg-farless-chases-man-accused-of-stealing-deaf-mans-ipad-tv/-/8882916/21704016/-/13f4i7g/-/index.html

Aussie Teen Dodges Jail For Bashing Deaf Man
RAW VIDEO: Western Australia teen dodges jail for bashing Deaf man.
PERTH - A teenager has dodged a jail term after pleading guilty to bashing a Deaf man at a Perth train station, but he will face imprisonment if he offends again in the next year, a judge has warned.
Joshua William Bignell, 18, bashed Seow Oh, 28, fracturing his eye socket, in the eastern Perth suburb of Carlisle in June last year.
Bignell bashed and kicked Mr Oh from behind as he was walking to his car parked at the station. Bignell was originally charged with assault occasioning bodily harm but the charge was later upgraded to grievous bodily harm.
On Monday, in the District Court of Western Australia Judge Phillip Eaton handed Bignell a pre-sentence order, subject to three reviews over the next 12 months. Judge Eaton decided not to imprison Bignell immediately because he was young, had a troubled childhood and mental health problems and was "now in a stable situation".
If Bignell committed an offence in the next 12 months, it was likely he'd be sentenced to an immediate term of imprisonment, Judge Eaton warned. "You can just about bank on that," he said.
"If you're going well, I'll allow the order to continue. "If things are falling apart, then I won't hesitate to bring it to an end. "If you fail, Mr Bignell, then the consequences will be grim."
Judge Eaton said the maximum penalty for the offence was 10 years' imprisonment, meaning Bignell was "in the big league" after "fairly relentless offending" in recent years. ... Read more: http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/wa-teen-dodges-jail-for-bashing-deaf-man-20130225-2f1zl.html
