Deaf-Blind Man Pushed Onto Rail Tracks

RAW VIDEO: A pair of thugs who pushed a blind and Deaf man and his brother on to train tracks in a 'horrifying assault' at a busy station have both been jailed.



Daniel Webster, 23, and Niall Martin, 24 pushed a 31-year-old, off the platform at Chelmsford station in Essex, then threw his brother Joseph down after him as he tried to intervene.



Martin admitted ABH on the brother and was given a nine-month sentence but he has been freed already after he spent five months in custody, making him eligible for parole. Webster was jailed for 22 months after pleading guilty to GBH and ABH against both brothers.



Chelmsford Crown Court heard that the victim was attacked by Webster and Martin late at night on February 20 this year after the pair came over to ask him about train times.



A row broke out, and Webster launched his attack on the victim, who was described in court as 'profoundly Deaf' and is registered blind.



CCTV footage from the station shows a second man trying to come to the aid of his vulnerable brother, only for both of them to be thrown on to the tracks. As the pair scramble back to the platform edge and attempt to climb back to safety, Martin and Webster punch them both in the head, leaving them stranded. Network rail staff were forced to put a block on all trains coming through the station over fears that the pair could have been killed.

Jailing the pair yesterday Judge David Turner QC said it had been a 'disgraceful episode' and labelled their actions 'manifestly dangerous'. He said: 'This is exactly the sort of thing that terrifies members of the travelling public late at night.'



Speaking afterwards, Detective Constable Alan Reed of British Transport Police said: 'This is one of the most appalling incidents I have investigated. 'Webster and Martin showed a savage disregard for their victims, and one of the brothers is still suffering from the injuries sustained to his foot.



'It is no exaggeration to say the brothers could have been killed after being thrown onto the tracks. 'I would like to pay tribute to the victims, who have shown great dignity following what was a terrifying ordeal for them 'I hope the sentence will provide them with some sense of closure, although in truth, the impact this has had on both of them is likely to remain with them for the rest of their lives.'



The court heard that the victim spent six weeks on crutches and was off work for six months. He now walks with a limp and has been told the foot injury may take two years to heal and may need further surgery. Source

Gallaudet Boot Man For Seeking Underage Girls

Gallaudet University has removed from campus a man seeking 100 underage girls to marry and to make his concubines, officials said.



The hearing man was last seen Sunday going door-to-door in University Park, distributing leaflets that also espoused racist views. Police chased him out of the town near University of Maryland, saying he needed a permit to distribute the flier.



It appears the same man has visited Gallaudet, the D.C. school for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing in Northeast Washington, D.C.



“Last week, a man carrying the same letter was seen on the Gallaudet University campus and was subsequently asked to leave and prohibited from returning,” said Theodore Baran, Director of Gallaudet University Department of Public Safety, in a released statement.



The man has no known connection to the university, he said.



The man, who is from Grand Rapids, Mich., has claimed to be Deaf and used index cards to communicate with town police and residents in University Park. One witness described him as “a gentlemen with a terrible message.” His identity has not been released because he has not been charged with a crime. ... Deaf Man Beaten To Death In His Home

Deaf man beaten to death in his home. His nose was broken, his larynx crushed and clumps of hair ripped from his head.



AURORA, Colorado. - Jonny Braning did a hilarious impression of Elvis. Though he was Deaf, the 48-year-old man had lived a full life.



The simple pleasures Jonny lived for seeing his granddaughter and making people smile were all taken from him between Feb. 26 and March 7, 2002, when someone bludgeoned him to death in his small Aurora apartment.



Robbery may have been the intent, according to a story by former Rocky Mountain News reporter Sarah Huntley. But it was hard for investigators to understand why.



Jonny was living on disability and didn’t have much money, Huntley reported.



Over the years he had worked for King Soopers, Jolly Rancher and as a janitor for a telecommunications company. But he was unemployed and lived on his monthly disability check. He would go to a corner store and write a note for a clerk when he needed something.



He lived in a small apartment at 1097 S. Evanston Way.



It appeared that whoever killed Jonny first attacked him in his bedroom, possibly with some type of blunt weapon, which was never found. Apparently a battle continued into his living room.



His body was found lying on the floor in his living room by maintenance workers who became worried when they realized they hadn’t seen the man, who was a fixture of the complex, in days. Rescued 70 Deaf Chinese From Human Trafficking

BEIJING - Chinese police have arrested 360 suspects for their involvement in enticing Deaf-Mute to engage in robbery or burglary, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) said on Tuesday.



Police in 21 provincial regions have uprooted 61 such criminal gangs and rescued 70 Deaf people during a recent joint campaign, according to a statement released by the MPS.



The suspects deceived the students from Deaf schools via social networks on the pretext of offering job opportunities or going traveling, when in fact the purpose of the approach was to force them to commit crimes such as robbery or burglary, the statement said.



Yang Erdu, a most-wanted suspect, together with other prime suspects, was captured by police during the campaign, according to the statement.

CODA Tried To Kill Deaf Parents In House Fire

GAFFNEY, SC - A Gaffney man was arrested after investigators said he tried to kill his Deaf parents in a house fire Monday morning after stealing from them. A Gaffney man who is a child of a deaf adult, often known by the acronym "CODA", is a person who was raised by Deaf parents.



Cherokee County Sheriff Steve Mueller said 22-year-old Fletcher Edward Blanton removed a lighted fire alarm system in the home before setting the Ford Road house ablaze.



Deputies said Blanton reported the fire after he awoke to smoke inside the home, then woke up his parents, who were able to get out of the home safely.

Following their investigation, deputies said Blanton intentionally caused a fire that damaged the home and also stole $4,850 of tools and electronics from his dad the same day as the fire. Blanton was charged with third-degree arson, grand larceny and two counts of attempted murder. SOURCE

A Gaffney man has been charged with attempted murder after deputies say he set fire to the home he shared with his hearing-impaired parents.



Fletcher Edward Blanton, 22, of 1333 Ford Road has been charged by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office with grand larceny, third-degree arson and two counts of attempted murder, arrest warrants state.



Sheriff Steve Mueller said firefighters and deputies responded to a fire about 1:30 a.m. Monday. An incident report states that Blanton told investigators that he awoke to find smoke inside the home, got his parents out of the house and called 911.



Firefighters, however, found evidence that the fire had been intentionally set, Mueller said. Investigators found that Blanton had disconnected a special fire alarm with a flashing light designed for the hearing impaired and thrown it outside. ...
