Deaf Web-Sites AdBlock Controversy

VIDEO: This ASL video to raise awareness of the impact AdBlock has on Web-sites's and Advertiser's of the Deaf social networking community.



What DeafRebel.com owner want to make clear more than anything is that this video is not directly against adblock users. This is not trying to tell you to disable it or that you are a bad person for using it. There has just been a lot of controversy with adblock and many other blogs and vlogs making videos about its impact.



The 2 cents about adblock and its impact on sites in an ethical way. Also discuss a bit on how making money on sites works to help people understand all sides of the adblock dilemma since it is a bit deeper than "Disable it so the web-sites can make more money" that the real problem - it punishes people that disable adblock and really creates unnecessary revenue gains.

Overall ads are how you make money on web-site and adblock impacts that. It's understandable that websites need to make money from non-intrusive ads. People can't survive by working for free. When you view your favorite content providers or favorite websites, please turn off your adblockers, simply as that.



This is really a big deal and needs to have something done soon! Please help raise awareness, give the video a like, comment, do whatever you need to do to spread the word, and as always.

Deaf journalist Charlie Swinbourne also known as The Limping Chicken, editorially of the United Kingdom’s independent Deaf News and Deaf Blogs website as well as being a journalist and an award-winning scriptwriter. Swinbourne writes for the Guardian and BBC Online, and as a scriptwriter, penned My Song, Coming Out and Four Deaf Yorkshiremen.



Swinbourne published the article ‘The 10 annoying habits of hearing people’ went viral and broke all records on this site, a number of people wrote in asking the editor when they would be doing a Deaf Version.



At first, Swinbourne dismissed these suggestions – Deaf people aren’t in any way annoying, are they?



But then some of The Limping Chicken readers (most of them DEAF) sent in their suggestions for what our irritating habits might be, and Swinbourne started to realise that maybe hearing people don’t have a monopoly on being annoying Deaf people have their moments as well. Audism – is a civil and human issue.

Language/ASL appropriation – is a linguistic issue.

Non-certified interpreters – is a civil and linguistic issue.

Hearing people taking ASL teaching jobs – is a civil and human issue.



Let’s look into linguistic rights. What is this really mean?



American Sign Language (ASL) is our right. That is our language. (Please keep your debate about who owns ASL out of here, because that is not the point!)



We need to band together to educate ourselves what is language appropriation really means, and we need to instill our value in American Sign Language.

A Deaf activist and ASL vlogger, Taurean also known as Tar2006 claimed that the couple are currently embroiled in an online spat with Deaf activists who argue that they has culturally misappropriated American Sign Language (ASL) from Deaf and Hard of Hearing community and the sources are indicating that Paul Sirimarco, aka Paul Marco, has been deeply involved in the porn industry.
